Date Night Fridays 4/15/11

I remember when my husband and I first started to date, we would so look forward to Friday night. I was only 16...Yikes! He was 20...child abuse! Hahahaha! We had our parents permission so it was all well with the Lord :) Anyways, back to the date thing. He would get out of work, go home take a shower, get all nice and clean. I got all dressed up and pretty and put on my best perfume and all, waited by the window anxiously until I heard the sound of his car. We would go to Friday night youth service and after service a bunch of us would go to this Burger place and have the best time ever! Other times it would be just the two of us to a nicer place. My curfew was 10 pm so my husband (boyfriend at that time) would drive me home and kiss me good night :) Ahhh, how nice to remember those times.

When we got married we continued our tradition with our Friday night date and when the kids came they joined us! That is right, I told my husband one day, "I will not give up my date night with you just because we have kids".
The kids got used to it and wouldn't make plans on Friday night because it was our "Family Night". Our Date Night became our Family date Night. I realized then, that as time changes we need to make adjustments to keep "our tradition" alive.

As our kids have gotten older and activities can't make day changes we are back to our "just the two of us date night" and I love it! I enjoyed our Family date Night, because we would catch up on what was going on in each other's life and enjoyed our special day together. But
when it is all said and done it was just the two of us that started this relationship and it will be the just the two of us that will continue as our kids build their own families.

I want to encourage you to remember those early days, when you couldn't wait for that Friday night date! Get all pretty for your husband, look out the window with expectation and receive him with the prettiest biggest smile you have!
Proverbs 18:22 reminds us that "When a man finds a wife, he finds something good. It shows that the Lord is pleased with him."  I want to be that good wife to my husband, don't you?

A DATE CAN BE:

  • A  walk in the park,
  • A quiet dinner at home
  • Watch a movie from Netflix
  • Go out to dinner
  • Go Miniature Golfing (my husband loves this one!)
  • Go Bowling
It all depends on your Budget,
but don't let your Budget be your excuse!
